The receiving of the Comeg Album 'Savage' was met with initial mixed reactions. A demo album for review should by common standards have no more than 4 or 5 tracks, anymore, and the reviewer wonders whether they are expected to listen to all of it, to be selective or to skip through the tracks and just give a general overview. There is also that risk that some of the tracks may sound the same and positive aspects of the EP may quickly turn to the negative.

The decision to give this EP my full attention was based on the fact that it was well presented with a good cover design, excellently presented CD and accompanied with a letter with covering information.
  • Torch Song Blues
  • Here Inside Your Heart
  • Into the Sunshine
  • Rise
  • Alive
  • Sumer Rain
  • Avenue
  • Pretty Galore
  • Broken
  • That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
  • Black Reign
  • The World Inside Her Head
The decision did not disappoint and 'Savage' had depth, variety and many highly impressive tracks. This is no amateur production and the talent, experience and potential just came through loud and clear. With Comeg having released his first self produced CD in 2002, this is his fifth album. With this level of material, Comeg has to be taken very seriously.
Comeg is an original Rock Indie Artist based in Exeter and he has a serious talent for weaving sumptuous melodies which simply hook you in and refuse to let you go.

The strength of his vocals combines perfectly across the range of material from rock anthems to soulful melodies.

Overall, this is a EP release which offers something for eveyone. It is hard to say where this would sit in my all time collection of Unsigned Albums. Certainly in the top 20 and perhaps it even makes my top 10. The only problem I have is that I do not get an overwhelming sense of wanting more. Listening to all the tracks was great, make no mistake of that, but my impulse was not to find my favourite track nor to play it again within the next few days. I was not gripped in the way that I wanted to be or perhaps should have been. That however is not to say that others will not be. Comeg will attract a wide audience and an intelligent marketing of the EP will undoubtadly result in his fan base increasing by significant numbers.

In overall terms, one has to wonder why someone with the talent of Comeg remains unsigned and perhaps that is what Comeg would like to know to! For me, Comeg joins the ranks of good artists, infact excellent artists, who somehow lack that killer sound that takes them from the gig circuit into the commercial market. It is this commercial appeal that so many excellent bands lack. Many accept this and enjoy their time at the top of the Unsigned Charts, for others, it ends in a tireless search for that big break that never seems to come irrespective to the number of raving reviews that are written.

I am not sure what what the realistic aspirations of Comeg is but I get the feeling that he wants more and will continue to strive forward to achieve it.

What I would say is that the website needs some attention. For such a professional artists it looks simplistic and lets the image down. It may well be worth looking to invest in a professionally managed and produced site. First impressions do count and this goes for everything with your name on it. The website is a 'shop window' to your material and this needs to be of a standard that reflects your material.

At BandsUnsigned we wish Comeg all the very best. The EP 'Savage' sits in our top collection and once in a while we will have a really good listen and enjoy every minute of it.

Good luck and best wishes

Phil Greenwood
