'A
cross between brit rock
and american pop
rock..hearfelt lyrics and
catchy tunes'
Thomas
Hedley is a
singer,song-writer,performer and
co-producer who hails from the
Island Republic of Malta. Without
any argument, his tracks
demonstrate a strong emphasis on
quality, professionalism and
talented song writing and
production.
Thomas
Hedley started singing and
writing songs at age 12, and he
is also an accoplished keyboard
player. His style is influenced
mainly the Beatles, especially
George Harrison, Morissey and the
Smiths, Crowded house, and
today's Franz Ferdinand,
The Calling,Hoobastank, U2, Snow
Patrol, Coldplay and
Stereophonics among others.
The
professionalism of the demos
perhaps outstrips many that I
have heard for a long time and
sites and represents what many
bands should aspire to achieving.
Tom may have some significant
resources at his disposal, and it
all pays off with fantastic
results.
Going
Down
If
you put the genres of Brit Rock
and American pop rock into a
blender, then you get 'Thomas
Hedley' with his innovative and
stylish rhythm and sound.
'Going
Down' is nothing short of a
triumph and would sit comfortably
on any mainstream radio play. To
me, the track is about a person
who has had enough of a
relationship which is dragging
them down into a very dark place.
Despite trying, there is no way
out.
The
smooth vocals and deep
arrangement is absorbing and
draws you into the pain and
despair of the subject. It ends
without conclusion and leaves you
hanging on the edge of an abyss.
For
a demo to evoke emotion and
understanding reflects the
strength and mood of the track, a
theme that consistently runs
through all his material.
Is
It Too Late
'Is
it too late' is a rock ballad performed with
added complex instrumental
passages which plays directly to
the audience with crystal clear
vocals and quality. Tom gives his
heart on this recording which
adds great weight and honesty to
his appeal. The material is very
intelligent in that it transcends
generations and would appeal to a
wide cross section of the market.
My
First Love
There
is no doubt that Thomas Hedley
does write very catchy and
heartfelt tunes, and the common
theme is that they involve the
emotion of love. That's great,
but after the third such demo, I
was starting to want some variety
in theme. At least 'My First
Love' presented an upbeat tempo
and mood, but even then it
started to feel a bit samey.
However, that said, its still a
cracking demo and on its own
stands out as one of high
quality, professionalism and
technical excellence.
Thomas
Hedley is certainly more
classic rock in sound but
his vocals resonate more
as pop. This provides an
unusual blend that works
well with the ballads,
and overall, he has the
pop / rock genre well
sewn up.
The
clarity of Tom's vocals
is abundantly showcased
in all three tracks, and
it is clear that they
would have great appeal
live, on cd and across
mainstream radio.
His
You Tube clip demonstrates the
popularity of Tom's music along
with his charisma as a seasoned
artist and performer who has that
ability to reach out to a large
audience. Although based in
Malta, and my lack of knowledge
about the local music scene, Tom
has everything going for him and
no doubt is close to achieving
the next level with wide spread
popularity. All I would like to
hear is a bit more diversity in
the tracks..
Tom and
his band provides an inspiration
to others and we wish him every
success which I am sure will come
his way.
